“Hey, have you ever felt like you want to change everything at once? Like you want to wake up early, work out, eat better, and read more, but it just feels… impossible?”
“Ugh, all the time! I’ll make a list, feel motivated for a day or two, and then it all falls apart. It’s exhausting.”
“Exactly! I used to feel the same way. Then I stumbled across this idea of tiny habits. You know, starting really small — almost laughably small — and letting it grow naturally.”
“Tiny habits? Like what, taking baby steps?”
“Sort of, but it’s even simpler. For example, instead of saying, ‘I’ll run 5 kilometers every day,’ you say, ‘I’ll put on my running shoes.’ That’s it. No pressure to run, just the shoes. It’s about showing up.”
“Wait… just putting on your shoes? What’s the point of that?”
“The point is momentum. The hardest part is often starting. Once your shoes are on, you might feel like stepping outside. Maybe you’ll walk to the door. And hey, if you do nothing else, you’ve still succeeded at your habit. That’s the beauty of it — no stress, no guilt.”
“Huh. I guess that sounds easier than my usual ‘All or nothing’ approach. So, what happens next?”
“Once the tiny habit feels effortless, it naturally grows. You might add a short walk after putting on your shoes. Then it turns into a jog. Before you know it, you’re running without even thinking about it.”
